Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Rugby Cranes today stopped Ghana Eagles 53-12 in the group C opening match of the Rugby Africa Cup.

Star performance by Adrian Kasito who scored 13 points earned him a man of the match award in the match that took place at the Kyadondo Rugby ground.

Solomon Okia and Desire Ayera picked two tries each, while Faraji Odugo, Brian Odongo, Aaron Ofoyrwoth and Ronald Kanyanya picked more tries to give Uganda a perfect start.

Uganda dominated both halves with tries from Ayera, Odongo and Okia to guide Uganda Rugby Cranes to a 29-12 half time lead. In the last 10 minutes of the first half Ghana also stepped up to get two tries and a conversion.

Uganda continued with the domination to run rings around the visiting team as the match ended 53-12.  “We are happy to start with a good win. We shall prepare well for the next game against Algeria,” said the Uganda Rugby Cranes skipper Ivan Magomu after the match.

The win puts Uganda top of group C before they face Algeria on July 18th. Ghana will hope to recover to get a good result against Algeria on July 14th.

The top two teams from each pool progress to the third and final round of the Rugby Africa Cup in 2022. However, the elimination stages will produce a winner to qualify directly for Rugby World Cup 2023.
