Two arrested over kidnap of woman in Hoima city

Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Two suspects are in police custody in Hoima on allegations of kidnapping a young woman. The suspects whose identities have been withheld by the police for fear of jeopardizing investigations were picked up from Kihomboza cell, Hoima West division, Hoima city on Monday evening.

According to police, while in Hoima city on Monday evening at around 5pm, the suspects kidnapped Aisha Nema. They bundled their victim in a Toyota Premio registration number UBH 627C, and drove off at breakneck speed.

However, some residents heard the kidnap victim screaming for help and alerted police. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network on Tuesday morning that police swung into action and started pursuing the suspected kidnappers.

He explains that while trying to get away from the police, the suspects crashed into a tree and failed to get away. Hakiza says that police rescued Nema and impounded the vehicle the suspects were using.
