Three arrested for robbing URA official

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Kampala have arrested three men on allegations of robbing an employee of Uganda Revenue Authority –URA.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said thugs armed with machetes and knives, raided Cyprus Mugabi’s home in Kasangati where they robbed various items including his Harrier vehicle registration number UBF 052F. Mugabi works at URA branch at Kyaliwajjala, Kiira municipality, in Wakiso district.

Mugabi rushed to a neighbour’s home who helped him call the Police’s 999 patrol team that pursued the suspects. The patrol team was guided by the tracking device Mugabi installed in his vehicle.

Police deflated the tyres with bullets at Ring road in Old Kampala and arrested one suspect, Joshua Kanyoro, who was driving the stolen car. Upon arrest, Kanyoro led police to various spots where they often hide stolen items.

Owoyesigyire said during the search police arrested two other suspects identified as Shifa Mujuzi and Jamil Aol. Mugabe’s laptop too was found with Kanyoro.

Mugabi in his statement said the thugs that raided his home at around 3:20 am, varnished with his two telephones and 3 million cash.

Mugabi’s incident comes two days after police in Kajjansi arrested two suspected robbers that raided the home of a banker, Allan Joshua Mwesigwa.

Owoyesigyire said about seven armed thugs attacked Mwesigwa’s home in Kajjansi town council at around 11 pm and robbed various items. Mwesigwa was not at home at the time of the raid but his maid was threatened with a gun and pangas.

Thugs robbed two television screens, wireless speakers, play station, children’s passports, two phones and other assorted items. Kajjansi police upon receiving information about the incident pursued the suspects and arrested two.

Police first arrested Nsubuga who led police to areas of Kawuku and Kitara under Entebbe municipality where two guns were recovered. Among the items police recovered from robbers include a television screen, sharp pangas, pit axe, Martial strengthener, bags with new clothes and ladies’ jewelleries.
