State House Anti-Corruption unit confirms raid on BOU

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has confirmed they grilling several Bank of Uganda officials in relation to an investigation of a dubious recent procurement.

Media in Kampala are reporting the investigation is about a recent procurement of new currency notes. Reports indicate there was extra luggage on the chartered plane that cannot be traced.

“The State House Anti-Corruption Unit acting under article 99 (4) of the Concsitution of Uganda in liason with the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Police, acting under Article 120 (3) (a) and in conjunction with Bank of Uganda is carrying out a special investigation on a matter pertaining to the Bank’s procurement and supply chain activities” a statement signed by the head of the unit Lt. Col Edith Nakalema.

The statement adds that the investigation is being carried out following an invitation by the Governor of the Bank of Uganda and in close cooperation with the Governor’s office.

“The matter under investigation invokes a recent procurement consignment. A number of senior bank personnel, customs and civil aviation Authority personnel are being questioned. Bank of Uganda operations remain intact and uninterrupted.”
