Police introduces a ‘visitor’s book’ at Dr Besigye’s home

Police and other security organs have for the last four days introduced a new system that has been reffered to as by the FDC members as meant to stop people from visiting their party leader.

Philip Wafula Oguttu the FDC publicist also a legislator representing Bukholi Central says the new system of having all Dr Besigye’s visitors register came into active force four days ago by the police who camped around opposition FDC President Col Kizza Besigye home in Kasangati, Wakiso district.

According to FDC spokesman, Wafula Oguttu, Besigye’s private visitors are now being restricted from accessing the latter.

In a telephone interview with Wafula on Thursday says Dr Besigye made the remarks during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting being held at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, a Kampala suburb on Wednesday.

“Our party president made the revelation while at the meeting at Najjanankumbi that the Police besieging his home have now introduced a record book for all those who want to visit him,” said Wafula.

Wafula says that those who will not register will not be allowed to access Dr Besigye and we don’t know the reason for the introduction of this book that is now scaring our supporters from visiting their president.

The revelations could leave police with facial lacerations for denying Besigye the right to assemble and also violating his privacy.

Police have since last month maintained significant presence and a cordon around Besigye’s family residence, saying the move is aimed at blocking him from “disrupting peace and security” in Kampala.

Besigye has in the past weeks been leading what opposition dubbed “Walk to Freedom” protests in the city thus clashing with security forces.  He was however, denied access to go and celebrate the 50 years of Uganda’s independence at Kololo Uhuru Grounds a week ago.
