One dead as Serere registers 18 incidents on Christmas day

Serere, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A nine-year-old girl lost her life in Okolonga Trading Centre, Kidetok Town Council during Christmas Day celebrations in Serere district. The victim, only identified as Anyait was knocked by a speeding bike at night.

The information is contained in the emergency unit services deployed in the district on Monday. The report indicates that there were 15 cases of assault, three road accidents, and one gunshot case. The gunshot victim, Sam Opus, sustained a serious injury around his waist.

The Serere LCV Chairperson, Stephen Ochola says that most of the affected persons are minors who were partying in trading centers at night. He notes that preliminary findings indicate that the fights ensued after some disagreements over drinks and other Christmas items.

Although the Police were still unable to comment on the matter by the time of filing the story, one person, a security guard in Serere Town Council was arrested for shooting the 17-year-old youths at Serere Upper-shops.

Information from Serere Health 1V indicates that besides the reported cases, more assault survivors were recorded in the facility on Tuesday. Among them is a woman reportedly stabbed by her husband over food. The survivor reportedly served the food meant for the head of the home to a visitor who came home on Christmas Day without any prior notice.
