President Yoweri Museveni has said the government will soon find a way of supporting churches in the country to supplement their roles of attending to both spiritual and human needs.
He noted that as the national budget improves, the government will find a better way of assisting the churches.
Museveni made the remarks at State House, Entebbe on Dec. 19, when he made a cash donation of Shs.100 million to Jinja Catholic Diocese as part of fulfilling the pledge that he made to the diocese in September towards the construction project for St. Gonzaga Gonza Iganga Minor Seminary that needs over Shs.1.3 billion.
The President handed over the donation to Rev. Fr. Joseph Kalinaki who represented Jinja Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika.
Fr. Kalinaki saluted the President for the generous contribution to the Church. He also expressed gratitude to him for the appointment of one of their officials as Uganda’s Ambassador to Malaysia saying that the new envoy would provide Jinja and the Diocese in particular and the country at large full representation in the Asian country.
Museveni also fulfilled his pledge of two double cabin Mitsubishi pickups to the Nkokonjeru-based Little Sisters of St. Francis congregation in Lugazi Diocese, Mukono District.
He said the vehicles would facilitate their farming ventures. The vehicles were received by the Congregation’s Mother General, Sister Anne Nasimiyu.
