Museveni launches southern bypass

By Sarah Namulondo

President Museveni today launched the $350 million construction project of the southern bypass by digging out soil from the road in Kyengera in Kabojja Village.

The road project which is equivalent to the northern bypass will have 15 roads running from Busega to Entebbe but will be going through some of these areas Nakawuka, Kasenge, Kitugulu, Kajjansi and Munyonyo.

He said that the project on completion will help control traffic on the Kampala Entebbe highway, improve development in the areas it will pass through because easy access to transport makes business easy.

Museveni said that the government of Uganda is working hand in hand with the Chinese government to get loans from the Chinese government for the completion of the road construction because china’s loans have lower interest rates and do not have any extra ties to them like most western countries.

The president also said that the money will be strictly used for the construction of the road and he will ensure that corruption does not derail or delay the project.

The President thanked the Chinese government for strengthening their friendship with Uganda and constantly looking forward to developing the country.
