Mukono, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Mukono North County Member of Parliament, Abdallah Kiwanuka has asked security to release more than 50 children believed to be held at Kyampisi Childcare Center.

According to Kiwanuka, security handed over the children to Kyampisi Childcare Center which belongs to Pastor Peter Ssewakiryanga after picking them from Markaz Ibun Hajjara School in Namaliga in Bombo in Luweero district where they were attending Islamic studies.

Last week, Charles Twine, the Spokesperson of the Criminal Investigations Directorate confirmed the police raid on Markaz Ibun Hajjara School and arrest of former music artist Vincent Segawa who has since embraced Islam and is known as Ibrahim Segawa together with several others, for child trafficking.

Now, Kiwanuka says that he has been receiving phone calls from various parents about being denied access to their children who are at Kyampisi Childcare Center, which is in his constituency.

Our reporter visited Kyampisi Childcare Center to ascertain the legislator’s claims but security turned him away unless he secures permission from the management. Pastor Peter Ssewakiryanga could neither confirm nor deny the presence of the children when contacted on phone.

He, however, explained that they receive children of different categories from various authorities for safe custody.  He advised the legislator to go through the right process to access the premises where all his questions will be answered.

Kyampisi Childcare Center seats on about five acres of land is surrounded by a tall brick fence. It is guarded by both uniformed police and UPDF officers.
