Motorcycle thieves burnt to death by mob in Kagadi

Kagadi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Two suspected motorcycle thieves have been burnt to death in Kagadi district.

The deceased persons who are yet to be identified with others still at large reportedly raided Kambugu village in Kicucura sub county of Kagadi district and stole a motorcycle registration number UFN 290L Bajaj belonging to one of the area residents. The incident happened on Friday night.

Information obtained by Uganda Radio Network-URN indicates that after the thugs raided and stole the motorcycle, they jumped on it and proceeded toward Hoima town.

However, area residents started pursuing the suspects whom they later arrested. Two of the suspects reported survived the mob action. Those who were arrested were beaten and their bodies were later burnt. Mob justice is illegal in Uganda.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident. He said police recovered the suspected stolen motorcycle that is currently being kept as an exhibit at the Kagadi central police station.

He says, police later picked the remains of the killed thieves that were later conveyed to the Kagadi general hospital mortuary where they are currently lying pending postmortem and identification.

According to Hakiza, the hunt for all those who participated in the mob justice action is ongoing.

He condemned the action of the area residents saying mob justice is a crime.
