Milly Naluwenda, Buganda traditional court clerk in police custody

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Milly Naluwenda, a clerk to the Buganda Kingdom traditional court commonly known as Kisekwa has been arrested. She was arrested in Lungujja Parish on Thursday by a team from the Directorate of Crime Intelligence (DCI).

Paul Werikhe, a son of Nuluwenda, told journalists that a Toyota Hiace commonly known as Drone parked at his mother’s shop in Kitunzi zone and men dressed in casual clothes grabbed her and then threw her inside the vehicle.

According to Werikhe, during and after the arrest,  the operatives fired several bullets perhaps to scare neighbors from interfering with their operation. “I lost consciousness once bullets started flying in this area. I think about nine bullets were fired as my mother was being taken. I don’t who took her and for what reason,” Werikhe said.

However, Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson confirmed Naluwenda’s arrest. “Last night, crime intelligence carried out an operation in the areas of Lungujja, Rubaga Division in Kampala and arrested one suspect, Milly Naluwenda. The said suspect has been arrested to help in the ongoing investigation, which Uganda Police Force is currently carrying out,” Onyango said.

Although Onyango has not divulged details on the ongoing investigations, he has appealed to members of her family to be calm as investigations are being done.

There are reports that Naluwenda’s arrest is linked to last Sunday’s death of businessman Eng Daniel Bbosa Lwomwa 69, who was also the leader of the Ndiga (sheep) clan in the Buganda kingdom.

Bbosa was the proprietor of Transa Electrical Company Limited. He was shot to death by three assailants moving on a Haojue motorcycle with registration number plate UFX 854F which was disguised with a cell tape to read UEX 754E.

The deceased was driving with his wife Glady’s Bbosa and their house helper Peace Nambale, in a Land Cruiser UAH 637X. The murder occurred at the junction to his home, at Kikandwa zone, Lungujja Parish, in Lubaga division.

Bodaboda riders pursued the assailants, knocked down their motorcycle, and lynched one of them identified as Enock Sserunkuma while Noah Lugya was saved purposely to help in revealing who assigned them to kill Bbosa. The third one escaped and he is being hunted by security agencies.

So far, three people have reportedly been arrested with the help of information reportedly provided by Lugya who has since regained his consciousness but is still at Mulago Hospital under tight security.

Lugya has identified his mobile phone among those police collected at the scene and police are using it to trace the people who allegedly assigned them to kill Bbosa.
