Masaka on high alert after attacks

Masaka and surrounding districts of Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, and Kalungu are on high alert after a spate of murders in the region has left over 20 people killed in a period of five months.

Residents in the four districts have been terrorized by machete wielding gangs who have also committed rape on certain occasions. Southern Regional Police Commander Latiff Zaake said police had placed a curfew for residents of 11pm due to intense operations. Some of the worst hit areas include Kingo sub-county in Lwengo and Kyabakuza sub-country in Masaka.

The army and police have since heavily deployed in the area. There were rumours that a rebel group was lurking in the area although security forces have dismissed the claim. Out of fear, some residents have camped at police stations. A number of victims are being nursed at Masaka Hospital.

  1. Shit man! Don’t tell me “the kasita twebaka ku tulo” phenomenon is over! What reason will the people in Uganda have to re-elect the old man with a hat in 2021?
