Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Director of Public Prosecution-DPP has completed investigations into the murder of the former Buyende District Police Commander Muhammad Kirumira.
Last month, the case file had been recalled to include a second suspect, Hamuza Mwebe, in addition to Abubaker Kalungi.
Prosecution alleges that Mwebe, Kalungi and others still at large shot and killed Kirumira and his friend Resty Nalinnya Mbabazi in Bulenga, along the Kampala Mityana highway on Saturday, September 8, 2018.
Appearing before the Wakiso Grade One Magistrate Noah Ssajjabi on Wednesday, the Wakiso State Prosecutor Miriam Kamushabe told court that after thorough investigations into the case, the state has obtained enough evidence and they are ready to proceed with the trial.
Kamushabe, however, requested for adjournment of the case so that they get adequate time to present committal papers. Ssajjabi adjourned the case to March 27 when the suspects will be committed to the High Court.
Meanwhile, Halima Kalungi, wife of the suspect, says she is contented that since investigations are concluded her husband will have a fair trial. She, however, calls for human rights lawyers to offer the suspects legal support.
Halima also alleges that she has several times been threatened not to attend court sessions when her husband appears.
