Kalungi charged with Manslaughter

By Aloysious Kasoma

Adam Suleiman Kalungi the former Butaleja Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda’s boyfriend has been sent to Luzira after pleading guilty for having a part in the death of the youthful Member of Parliament.

He claimed that Nebanda consumed cocaine so as to gain courage to air her views in parliament. He said that on the ill-fated day, she consumed heroin at his residence in his absence, leading to her death.

Court in Kampala, yesterday remanded Kalungi to Luzira prison with three counts of manslaughter, supplying and dispensing narcotics.

The post mortem report showed the cause of death to be cocaine and heroin and Kalungi confessed that the late MP died of drug over abuse

Kalungi was arrested in Mombasa where he has been hiding and was handed over to the Ugandan police by the Kenyan authorities.

Police had earlier established that Kalungi is in fact a member of a Narcotic drug syndicate operating in a number of countries like Uganda, Pakistan, and South Sudan which he hadn’t since denied.

Nebanda, 24, passed away at Mukwaya General Clinic in Nsambya, on December 14 shortly after Kalungi and his friends dropped her at the facility and then vanished the scene which brought controversial confrontation between the Parliament and the Executive leading to the arrest of two MPs.
