Jinja Shooting: Police recovers stolen vehicle

Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kiira region police have recovered a Toyota Wish vehicle that was stolen from two gunshot victims on Friday evening.

Unknown assailants driving in a numberless commuter taxi gunned down Juliet Mirembe and Sadam Waiswa and made off with their vehicle Toyota Wish registration number; UBF 359V.

The assailants shot the duo at Lwanda primary school playground in Northern division in Jinja city where they had parked. They made off with the vehicle. Police recovered the vehicle from Ikaumi village in Kakira town council in Jinja district on Saturday morning.

Residents told URN on condition of anonymity that they alerted police after noticing an abandoned vehicle with its keys.

“As it is our daily routine, we were heading to work in Kakira sugarcane plantations about 10:00am when one of us noticed a seemingly new vehicle parked in the middle of the road with its keys intact without any trace of the occupants,” he said.

James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, says that they have since retrieved four bullets alongside other undisclosable exhibits from the vehicle, which they will subject to forensic examination to help them find the suspects.

The deceased’s bodies were lying at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital pending postmortem.
