Jailed Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere on Thursday applied for bail before Jinja High Court, saying he is of advanced age and gravely ill.

Mumbere wants to be released on bail pending  his  trial on various capital offences he is facing in relation to the recent Kasese killings. Court will sit to set a date to hear the bail application.

Through his lawyers from Alaka and Ochieng Company Advocates, the traditional leader says it is also his constitutional right to apply for and be granted bail, adding that he will not interfere with investigations.

He submitted that  he has a fixed place of residence located at Muyenga Cell, Nyakabingo II in Kasese and in Makindye Division-Kampala, plus substantial sureties who will undertake to bring him back as and when he is required in court.

On Wednesday, King Mumbere  faced more charges of treason together with 151 royal guards, before Jinja Chief Magistrates Court and were remanded to different prisons.

The King and his subjects are accused or murder, robbery and plotting to overthrow the government.
