ICPAU releases March 2021 examination results as number of accounts soar

ICPAU executives released results for March 2021 earlier today (April 01).

Kampala, Uganda | Julius Businge | The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) through its examination body arm, the Public Accountants Examinations Board, has released the March 2021 examinations which were conducted from March 15-19 at the Kampala examinations centre.

A total of 3,180 students attempted the March 2021 examinations. The general pass rate for all candidates was at 36.4%. Out of the 1,646 candidates who passed their papers, 509 (30.9%) were attempting them for the first time.

“We appreciate the level of preparedness of these candidates,” said Prof. Twaha Kaawaase (CPA), the acting chairperson, for the Public Accountants Examinations Board on April 01. Kaawaase said this demonstrates that with determination and preparedness, the CPA course papers can be passed at first attempt.

A total of 136 candidates completed the CPA course during the March 2021 examinations diet. Of the 136 candidates, 63 (46.3%) were female while 73 (53.7%) were male. This brings the number of students who have completed the CPA course to 4,132 since 1990’s when the institute started.

Frederick Kibeddi (CPA), the ICPAU president and Derick Nkajja, the CEO of ICPAU said the exams were unusually done in March to compensate for the time lost during the COVID-19 crisis when institutions of learning were shutdown. The accountants body will roll out three sets of exams this year – one in June, the other in September and the last one in December, according to Kaawaase.
