Fort Portal city mayor’s vehicle impounded over debt

Fort Portal city

Fort Portal, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The official vehicle of the Fort Portal city mayor has been impounded by court bailiffs over a debt amounting to 37 million Shillings. The impounded vehicle is an Isuzu double cabin registration number LG 0009 116, which the City Mayor, Edson Asaba Ruyonga has been using.

According to the December 6 attachment notice issued by Francis Dawa Matenga, the Assistant Registrar of Fort Portal High Court to Godfrey Kasuka, a court bailiff, the debt stems from a case filed in the High Court against Fort Portal Municipality by David Kazoba Guma in 2018.

Matenga directed the bailiff to attach the movable property including the mayor’s vehicle and three photocopy machines belonging to Fort Portal city, unless the debtor pays a sum of 37.8 million Shillings.

Richard Ndora, the Fort Portal City Clerk confirmed to URN that the vehicle had indeed been impounded but declined to divulge details of the case. He said Fort Portal city has a number of cases in court but they are handling the matter.

Efforts to get comment from Kazooba to understand the matter were futile as he did not pick up calls from our reporter.
