Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT  | The Criminal Investigations Directorate –CID has forwarded the files of two teachers accused of sodomizing and defiling their pupils to the Directorate of Public Prosecution- DPP. One of the suspects whose names haven’t been disclosed is a teacher at King Fahad Islamic primary school in Busega, Wakiso district. The suspect is being held on accusations of sodomizing a five-year-old pupil.

The matter came to the fore when the parents of the minor realized that he was walking with difficulty. They examined him and found that he was bleeding from the anus. Medical examinations confirmed that he had been sexually abused leading to the arrest of the teacher.

Similarly, Felix Atuhaire, a teacher at St Peter’s Nsambya, Makindye division in Kampala is accused of defiling a 10-year-old pupil. It is alleged that Atuhaire threatened the victim and defiled her. The girl notified her parents after the incident.

The Deputy Police Spokesperson, Polly Namaye, said the files of both suspects are being reviewed by the DPP, saying the suspects will appear in court once the files are sanctioned.

Namaye says police referred charges of aggravated defilement against the suspects because there is evidence implicating them on the crimes. According to police, both victims have since been examined by surgeons and forensic teams.

Meanwhile, eight more girls have approached CID accusing Hasadu Wamala, the Director Wamala Mixed Secondary School at Mpambire in Mpigi district of defiling them. Wamala was arrested a fortnight ago after a senior two student accused him of defiling her in his house.

The 16-year-old student said Wamala lured her to a classroom, sexually abused her and later dragged her to his house where he continued with the act. She told police that Wamala called her and another girl from their dormitory to his house early his month.

He reportedly sent back one of the girls to the dormitory and forces her into sex. Wamala was charged with indecent assault and granted bail. This didn’t go down well with president, Yoweri Museveni. While addressing the Police Council last week, Museveni wondered why such a suspect facing such a serious offense would be granted bail.

Namaye explains that the evidence gathered at the time Wamala was arrested and charged was for indecent assault but they are now opening new charges since more girls have come out to accuse him. CID records of 2018 show that 15,366 female juveniles and 228 male juveniles were defiled.

Detectives arrested 5,747 suspects and arraigned them in various courts. 951 suspects were convicted while 4,329 are still awaiting trial.
