Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Hundreds of revelers have thronged Lubiri Grounds to attend the end of year party commonly known as ‘Enkuka Yo’Mwaka. The annual event was last celebrated in 2019. In 2020 and last year, the show was suspended following the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic.

When URN reporter visited the grounds, several artists were entertaining the revelers who had turned up early for the show. The show will be preceded by a display of fireworks at Midnight. Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is expected to grace the event.

Among the musicians lined up include; King Saha, Sheeba Karungi, Jose Chameleon, Palaso, Winnie Nwagi, David Lutala, Navio, Azawi, Bebe Cool, Spice Diana, Fik Femaica, and a host of stand-up comedians.

Vicky Nalumu, an excited reveler from Mukono Municipality notes the suspension of the annual festival deprived her of happiness and when it resumed, she could not afford to miss it as a special way of ushering in the new year.

Isaac Waiswa, a resident of Nansana Municipality said the pandemic deprived the youth of the party for two years and expressed eagerness to see his favorite musicians perform on the stage and later be able to dance till morning.

At Sheraton Hotel, all is set for entertainment by Afrigo Band and a display of fireworks.

Events promoter and organizer, Balaam Barugahara says that they have ensured adequate security for all the revelers.

At Freedom City, on Entebbe Road, several revelers turned up early for the ‘Party after Party’ family show that will be graced by dozens of musicians.

Security was visibly tight at all three sites being manned by Field Force Unit – FFU police backed by plain cloth detectives, military personnel, and private security guards.

Various entertainment centers that include nightclubs, and bars in and around Kampala City are in high gear to host performances that will attract multitudes of revelers for the first time in two years after the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

President Yoweri Museveni during his televised address in early December called for renewed restrictions. Museveni ordered the immediate enforcement of wearing face masks, and a Covid-19 vaccination certificate as a prerequisite to access public transport and religious, cultural, and local council gatherings in the wake of resurging cases.

His directive also requires anyone without a vaccination permit to produce a PCR-based test conducted within 24 hours before they gain access to government offices and social gatherings.
