Entebbe, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT | The Entebbe Municipality National Resistance Movement-NRM parliamentary candidate, Stephen Shyaka Gashaija is under pressure from voters to fulfil his pledge to buy an ambulance for the municipality.

The voters led by Hassan Kikomeko, Entebbe Branch NRM Youth chairperson have taken to social media platforms such as Whatsapp and Facebook to pressurize Shyaka to deliver on his campaign pledge.

According to during the campaigns for the NRM primaries, Shyaka promised to deliver an ambulance once he wins the party card and another after winning the general elections.

Shyaka won the September NRM primary elections after defeating the incumbent, Rosemary Bikaako Tumusiime, Patience Mubangizi, Florence Tukei, Madinah Zalwango and Peace Sallamuka.

Shortly after his nominations in October for the general elections, Shyaka returned to Entebbe municipality with an ambulance, whose whereabouts is unknown.

Now, the voters and Kikomeko are demanding to know the whereabouts of the ambulance, saying Shyaka could have hired it to dupe them.

According to Kikomeko, failure by Shyaka to fulfil his pledge, it could cost him and other NRM candidates because his opponents including National Unity Platform-NUP supporters are already capitalizing on the public debate on the matter.

However, Ronald Rubongoya, another voter has asked his colleagues to stop piling pressure on Shyaka since he isn’t an incumbent.

Idd Muyomba, another voter will not have any of this, arguing that it was Shyaka who made the promise and voters are simply asking him to deliver.

Edward Sseguya, (not real name) another voter says Shayka is also yet to fulfil his pledge of buying a motorcycle and contributing Shillings one million to the Division A Boda boda cyclist’s Association.

Shyaka and his campaign team say they have already secured the ambulances will avail them at a “strategic time.” For now, he is still mulling over where to station them, the human resource needed and guidelines for their usage.

He says that apart from improving health services, NRM aims at securing the future of all residents of Entebbe municipality including youth, persons living with disabilities and women by supporting their income-generating projects and other services to improve living standards.
