Court Clerk ordered to defend himself on charges of Corruption

Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | The Anti Corruption Court has ordered a Court Clerk attached to Kayunga Magistrate Grade One Court, to defend himself on charges of Corruption.

Grade One Magistrate Lochomin Peter Fred ordered Moses Butamanya to explain himself, after findings that he had a case to answer of corruptly soliciting for a bribe of 500,000 shillings and receiving 150,000 shillings, to secure a suspect’ release on bail.

Prosecution evidence shows that between May 29, and June 16, 2015 at Kayunga Magistrate Court, Butamanya solicited for 500,000 shillings and received 150,000 shillings from Lubega John Bosco a suspect who was on charges of criminal trespass.

Butamanya was arrested together with three other Court Staff including Tushabomwe Clare a Copy typist, Ruth Abong an Office attendant and Natukwasa Fausta a Process server for obstruction, but the three  women have been acquitted and set free due lack of sufficient evidence that they obstructed Investigators from effecting arrest of Moses Butamanya.

Magistrate Lochomin then adjourned the matter and ordered Butamanya to prepare his defense by May 28, 2018.
