Cheptegei, Kiplimo prepare for National Cross Country Championships

Cheptegei and Kiplimo’s talent has seen scale world heights.

Kapchorwa, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda’s top long-distance runners Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, will feature in the National Cross Country Championships. The two are currently preparing in Kapchorwa ahead of the run slated for December 10th at Tororo Golf Course.

Cheptegei who couldn’t take part in the Great North Run in England on September 12th, due to an injury, says he is now steadily recovering and hoping to take part in the championships.

“I feel proud representing Uganda at International Championships, that’s why I have started the training for the event,” Cheptegei told Uganda Radio Network in Kapchorwa.

Cheptegei won a gold medal at the World Cross Country Championships in Aahus, Denmark in 2019, while Kiplimo came third.

“The National cross country is a special event to me because it brought me to the limelight in the sport in 2017 after winning gold for Uganda in the World Cross Country Junior category,” says Kiplimo.

Njia Benjamin, the Uganda Athletics Federation Vice President Technical says, the event will be used to select the national team that will represent the country at the World Cross Country championships in Australia in February 2023.

“This championship is one of the events in the UAF calendar which attracts a lot of competitors both national and international”, says Njia.

Peter Chelangat, Kiplimo’s coach says the training sessions currently are geared towards a great performance during the competitions.
