Bunyangabu LCV chairperson granted bail

Mugaram in the middle at Fort portal court

Fort Portal, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |  Fort Portal Magistrate court has granted bail to the Bunyangabu LCV Chairperson, James Ategeka Mugarama.

Mugarama was arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting the Resident District Commissioner Jane Asiimwe Muhindo. 

On Wednesday, the court presided over by the Grade Two Magistrate Nathan Mulindwa heard that on Monday while in Bunyangabu district, Mugarama slapped Muhindo. 

According to the prosecution, Mugarama was trying to block the RDC and the coronavirus taskforce from taking away the government vehicle in line with the presidential directive.

In his address to the nation, President Museveni directed that all government vehicles held by local governments be handed over to the district health officers to help the district coronavirus taskforce respond to emergencies.

Mulindwa released Mugarama on a non-cash bail of 1 million shillings while his sureties Fort Portal Municipality Member of Parliament Alex Ruhunda, Bob Businge, a businessman from Fort portal and Amon Rutenta former district councillor Kibito Sub County executed a non-cash bond of 2 million shillings each. 

The case was adjourned to April 28th.
