Buganda replaces Kasawo Ggombolola chief over land matters

Kyaggwe’s Ssekiboobo, Elijah Bogeere Lubanga Mulembya.

Mukono, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT  |  Buganda Kingdom has through its Local Governments Minister; Christopher Bwanika replaced Moses Tamale Kawombe, the Chief of Kasawo Sub County (Ggombolola), who is accused of alleged involvement in the fraudulent disposal of kingdom land. Kawombe has been replaced with Haji Sulaiman Teefe in an acting capacity until the allegations against him are resolved.

“You are officially appointed to act as the new Kasawo sub-county chief following the termination of Moses Tamale who is pending investigations,” reads Bwanika’s April 16th, 2021 letter in parts. Elija Bogeere Lubanga Mulembya, the Kyaggwe county head alias Ssekiboobo, says Kawombe has been supporting a team of fraudsters involved in selling land hosting traditional parish courthouses (ekitawuluzi).

The court houses in Kasawo at risk include Namaliri, Kimenyedde and 25 acres of land at Kasanakamusisi village hosting Kasawo sub-county courthouse for Kasana parish. The land was recently partitioned by grabbers for sale. Although Haji Sulaiman Teefe has welcomed his appointment, Kawombe has expressed dissatisfaction with the decision to replace him and saying he will not hand over the office.

In his April 18th, 2021 letter, Kawombe indicates that apart from hearing the accusations levelled against him by Kyaggwe county headquarters, the minister did not specify clear reasons behind his dismissal or give him a chance to defend himself. “I am not ready to handover the office until I am given an opportunity to also defend myself,” Kawombe writes in his letter.

However, the Kyaggwe county head insists that Kawombe should know that working for the kingdom is an assignment from the King, prime minister or any other designated kingdom minister who reserves the rights for dismissal.
