Under the Airtel Adopt A School Program, Over 3,349 Learners and 83 Teachers to benefit from new Digital Learning facility
Kampala, Uganda | NEWS CORRESPONDENT | A total of 3,349 learners and 83 teachers across four schools in Uganda are set to benefit from improved learning environments and access to digital education following the handover of refurbished school facilities by Airtel Uganda, through the Airtel Africa Foundation, under its Adopt A School Programme.
The four beneficiary schools are Arua Public Primary School in Arua City, Kibeedi Primary School in Kibaale District, Buremba Senior Secondary School in Kazo District and Kasaana I Primary School in Sheema District. Their inclusion brings the total number of schools supported under the programme to nine.
As part of the investment, Airtel Uganda has refurbished and equipped computer rooms with a combined 40 computers, provided each school with a fast internet connection and undertaken major classroom refurbishments. The programme has also supported improvements to sanitation and rainwater harvesting facilities, creating a more conducive learning environment for both learners and teachers.
The investment marks a significant step in the evolution of the Adopt A School Programme, which Airtel Uganda launched in November 2011 in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports. Initially focused on improving school libraries and essential learning infrastructure, the programme has grown to embrace digital education through the Airtel Africa Foundation, equipping learners with the tools and connectivity needed to participate in an increasingly digital world.
Speaking at the handover, Airtel Uganda’s Managing Director and C.E.O, Soumendra Sahu, emphasised the importance of creating opportunities for children regardless of their backgrounds or the schools they attend.
“A child’s potential should never be limited by where they are born, where they go to school, or the opportunities available around them. Every child deserves a fair chance to learn, dream, and build a better future.”

He further explained that the investment forms part of the Airtel Africa Foundation’s wider ambition to strengthen education and digital inclusion across the communities it serves.
“For us at Airtel Uganda, investing in education means giving young people the tools to participate in an increasingly digital world. Through the Airtel Africa Foundation’s focus on education and digital inclusion, we are helping prepare the next generation of Ugandans for the opportunities ahead.”
Beyond the provision of computers and internet connectivity, the upgraded facilities are expected to create new opportunities for learners to develop digital literacy, access educational resources and explore subjects beyond the limits of traditional classroom materials.
Through the Airtel Africa Foundation, Airtel Uganda continues to advance its investment in education and digital inclusion, building on nearly fifteen years of partnership with schools, government and communities to improve learning opportunities for Uganda’s children.
