700 teachers vaccinated against Covid-19 in Hoima

Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | 703 teachers in Hoima district and Hoima city have been vaccinated against Covid-19 on the first day of the mass vaccination. The exercise was launched on Wednesday in both Hoima district and Hoima city.

On the first day of the vaccination, 340 teachers were vaccinated in Hoima district while 363 were vaccinated in Hoima city.

The vaccination exercise for teachers in Hoima city and Hoima district will end on Friday and is targeting more than 3,000 teachers and non-teaching staff.

Johnson Kusiima Baingana, the Hoima city education officer says that most teachers have embraced the vaccination exercise that is being held at Hoima public primary school and Bwikya Islamic Primary School for teachers in the city.

Godfrey Sserwanja, the Hoima District Education Officer says they have established two vaccination centres at Buhamba Primary School in Kitoba sub county and Mparangasi health center III in Kyabigambire sub county.

Dr Lawrence Tumusiime, the Hoima District Health Officer-DHO explains that the district received 5,083 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to help in the vaccination of teachers in both Hoima City and Hoima district.

Of these, 2,400 doses are for AstraZeneca while 2,683 doses are for the Sinovac vaccine.

Tumusiime has however warned the teachers to continue observing the standard operating procedures-SOPs even after getting the jab.

Samuel Kisembo, the Resident City Commissioner says that no teacher will be allowed to teach pupils without being vaccinated.

There are 1,558 teachers in Hoima district and of these, 958 are government teachers both in primary and secondary schools while 600 are private teachers at both primary and secondary levels.
