World Bank shelves $90m loan to Uganda over anti-gay bill

The World Bank has postponed a $90 million loan to Uganda’s over President Yoweri Museveni’s signing of the tough anti-homosexuality law.

Norway and Denmark have said they are also cutting aid to Uganda because of the law and the U.S. is “reviewing ties”.

The blocked World Bank money was to go to the health sector’s maternal health, newborn care, and family planning projects.

The World Bank’s executive board had been set to approve the Ugandan health project on Feb.27.

The World Bank’s $1.56 billion portfolio on projects in Uganda has so far not been touched.
