Witness fails to testify in treason case after diarrhea attack

Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Hearing of the treason case against 19 people including those convicted in relation to the death of Muslim Clerics last year, has been adjourned for a full week after a prosecution witness suffered acute diarrhea from court.

On taking the stand, the 4th witness in this case informed trial Judge Wilson Masalu Musene on Wednesday that he was too weak to either talk, stand or sit to give his testimony.

He asked for three days to gain his strength .

This prompted Justice Musene to adjourn the case to Wednesday February 28, 2018 with advise that the witness sees the best doctor to handle his situation.

The suspects are facing two counts of treason and concealment of treason where they are said to have contrived a plot to over throw the government of Uganda by use of firearms between years; 2013 and 2015 at various places in Uganda , Dubai , Kenya and Tanzania.

Prosecution further states that the accused expressed this plot through utterances , recruitment and training of rebels, acquiring satellite mobile phones for communication, motorcycles and vehicles for transport and also rented houses to act as safe houses to accomplish their mission.

The suspects have now been remanded back to Luzira and Kigo government prisons respectively.
