THIS WEEK: Businessman Kassim Omar passes on

Kampala, Uganda | THIS WEEK New East Africa Business Council (EABC) boss Kassim Omar on Sept.05 passed on following a blood clot operation at Nakasero hospital.

Omar was elected as chairman of the regional private sector body in June taking over from Mr Audace Ndayizeye, of the Federal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Burundi.

“I commiserate with the family of Kassim RIP. His premature departure is a huge loss to the business fraternity in East Africa and especially to Uganda”, said Patrick Bitature, the chairman of Private Sector Foundation in Uganda (PSFU).

In his acceptance speech after emerging victorious as the council boss, Kassim reiterated the need to strengthen the EABC Secretariat and work towards the sustainability of the Institution. He said they needed to among others reduce donor dependence and enhance the technical and financial capabilities for the council to ensure sustainability.

Kassim also served as the National Chairman of Uganda Clearing Industry and Forwarding Association.
