WANTED: Uganda’s Attorney General Byaruhanga and Muhakanizi

AG Byaruhanga

The High Court – Lands division, has issued an arrest warrant for Uganda’ s Attorney General William Byaruhanga, Secretary to the Treasury Keith Muhakanizi and the Director General of the External Security Organisation Ambassador Julius Ocwet,  after finding them guilty of contempt of court.

Justice Andrew Bashaija ordered police to arrest the trio and commit them to civil prison for 30 days for failing to honour several summons. The summons had required them to appear in court and explain why they have taken over 20 years without paying rent dues to  Popat Ramunikal , the owner of plot 12 Army Avenue which houses ESO offices.

Court documents show that Ramunikal demands over sh35 billion from government as rent arrears, which prompted him to seek court’s intervention since  repeated reminders proved  futile.
