Veteran Journalist Rev. Isaac Bakka charged with treason

Kampala,Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Nakawa Magistrates Court Wednesday further remanded veteran journalist Rev. Isaac Bakka Onzima who is charged with treason and concealment of treason to Luzira prison. He will return to court on 28th March.

Bakka is attached to Nile FM in the Northern Uganda district of Gulu. The 68-year old was allegedly kidnapped by unknown people from his home in Mukono district around October 2017.

However, after a long search by his family and friends and the intervention of Parliament, security agencies reported on February 16, 2018 that they had taken him to court where he was charged with treason and remanded.

On Wednesday, Bakka and three other people facing the same charges went before Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani for mention of this case which is only tried by the High Court.

According to the Director of Public Prosecution, Bakka is said to have connived with Godfrey Asea, George Ngungu and Innocent Mawe to contrive a plot to overthrow the government of Uganda between January 2017 and January 2018 within various districts in Uganda and in other countries such as Kenya and South Sudan.
