UTL in new innovation

By Patrick Kagenda

After the Uganda Communications Commission issuing a notice to all telecom operators to stop sending unsolicited SMS to their clients, UTL has come up with an innovation that will enable a client to block any unsolicited SMS. In a statement, Uganda Telecom said it has introduced Do Not Disturb (DND), an option of opting out on receiving subscriber SMS alerts.

Commenting on the innovation, UTL Managing Director Ali Amir said, “We are proud to be the only operator that offers a differentiated and unique DND service that allows our customers to opt out of receiving subscription SMS alerts but still receive promotional SMS alerts about the company’s products and services.”

“Our subscribers that opt out of the unsolicited subscription SMS alerts will still be able to access and receive promotional messages about our services and products. This remains a direct communication channel to subscribers,” Amir added.

To subscribe to the DND list, a subscriber is required to call Uganda Telecom’s toll free line 100 or send an email to customercare.info@utl.co.ug; provide his or her phone number and they will be placed under the DND category of clients.
