UPDF, FARDC conducting civil-military sensitization exercises

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Peoples Defense Forces and their Congolese counterparts are conducting civil-military programs in areas formerly occupied by the rebel Allied Democratic Forces-ADF.

The activities include medical outreach programs, installation of water pipes and electricity in Kamango, Nobili-Mukakati-River Semuliki stretch.

Maj. Peter Mugisa, the spokesperson of Operation Shujja, says that the activities are geared to among others build partnerships between security forces and communities.

They are also aimed at bringing on board all stakeholders affected by the ADF atrocities in order to have a common objective and influence their opinions towards eradicating violence in Eastern DR. Congo.

He also notes that the joint security forces are engaging local leaders and agencies to enhance military effectiveness and end ADF atrocities.

Mugisa says that the joint force is cognizant of the fact that a supportive civil population can provide resources and information that can facilitate friendly operations.

“The joint operation forces have embarked on three aspects, which include; security, support and technical,” he said in a statement.

On security, Mugisa noted that the joint forces continue to conduct joint protection of vital installations from all areas where the rebels have been dislodged.

He explains that UPDF and their FARDC counterparts have beefed their deployment along Kasindi-Beni-Butembo to stop any rebel activities that could disrupt the road construction works that began last week.

There are increased rebel attacks of recent in major Eastern parts of DRC.
