Tumukunde to start bid for Presidency

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Lt. Gen (RTD) Henry Tumukunde has written to the Electoral Commission, stating that he will soon commence consultations with an aim to run for office of President.

“Fellow Ugandans, I have officially notified the Electoral Commission that I will be proceeding to carry out consultations across the country,” the Presidential aspirant said soon after.

Tumukunde, then Security Minister, was fired on the same day as Police chief General Kale Kayihura by President Yoweri Museveni in March 2018.

Museveni appointed General Elly Tumwine, a former army commander, as Security Minister and Okoth Ochola as the Inspector General of Police.
