Busia, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A timber grinder has strangled a carpenter in Busia district killing him instantly. The deceased is Musa Aron Mutebi, a resident of Bugonza village in Nakalanga parish in Namugongo sub county of Kamuli district.

Mutebi met his death on Tuesday afternoon while working at Masafu carpentry workshop in Masafu town council in Busia district. His colleagues found his lifeless body lying in the works with part of his T-shirt rolled tightly around his neck while the other side of the t-shirt was stuck in the roller with the machine resting on his chest.

Yokana Barasa, one of the employees in the workshop says they left Mutebi using the grinder to smoothen timber for producing coffins and went for breakfast. He however says that when they returned, they found him lying down with the protective clothes he was wearing rolled tightly on his neck and the machine lying on his chest.

According to Barasa, they tried to release Mutebi but the machine was very tight prompting them to call their boss.

Sulait Soka, another worker says that it seems the deceased’s clothes came into contact with the grinder, which trapped him to death.

Ouma Kabale, the proprietor of Masafu carpentry workshop says that he received a phone call from his workers only to reach and find one of his employees dead. He said it is difficult to explain what could have transpired since the deceased has been using the machine for the last one year.

Geoffrey Marvin Okema, the Officer in Charge of Masafu sub-county police station says that they used a sharp knife to cut the deceased clothe and roll back the grinder.
