The suspects are Bitek Okot, 20, Denise Onen,19, and Lawrence Onencan Owachi,18, all residents of Torokal village, Amuru sub county in Amuru district.

They allegedly waylaid Geoffrey Osborn Oceng at 10 pm on Sunday from Okwera-weki trading centre in Amuru sub county while he was enforcing the presidential guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19. They reportedly smashed the windscreen of Oceng’s vehicle with stones and fled.

According to Ongom, the suspects have been charged with malicious damage under Amuru CRB 338/2021 and that once the investigation into the matter are done, their case file shall be submitted to the Directorate of Public Prosecution-DPP for perusal and legal advice.

Oceng says the three suspects are members of a criminal gang called Mapari-meni and that they are known for staging illegal roadblocks and terrorizing locals in the areas of Okwera-weki, Oberabic and Oloyo-tong in Amuru sub county.

Oceng adds that the local community revealed nine names of the criminal gang members and that he will engage their parents to have them disciplined to deter them from criminal acts.
