Moroto, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Two thousand hungry and vulnerable families in Moroto district have recieved relief food from Tearfund Netherlands. The food worth Shillings 370million was procured by Karamoja Integrated Development Program (KIDEP) with funding from Tearfund.

The food relief was distributed to the most affected families in Nadunget, Rupa, Lotisan, Tapac, Katikekile, and Loputuk sub-counties and Nadunget town council on Wednesday. Each family recieved 20kilograms of maize flour and ten kilograms of beans.

Clementina Nangiro, a mother and a resident of Achere parish in Loputuk, said she was stressed up on what to feed her children after going two days without food. “My children can also have two meals a day at least for these two weeks because it has been hard,” she said.

Mary Losike, another mother said she had nothing to sell in order to get food, adding that the donation was timely. “God should help us and give us enough rains so that we can grow our crops,” she said.

Anna Maria Angolere, another mother and resident of Nadunget, said it has been hard for them as women to feed their children since men just wake up early morning and move at leisure. “Our culture which gives us women the burden of managing household affairs is overstressing us,” she said.

James Peter Olupot, the Executive Director of Karamoja Integrated Development Program, said that the current hunger situation needs collaborative effort. He said that the most affected sub-county is Rupa where no single crop germinated.
