Entebbe, Uganda | NEWS CORRESPONDENT | The second edition of the Inter-University Fashion Challenge lit up the runway at the University of Kisubi in Entebbe, bringing together six universities and some of the brightest young design talents in the region. Students completely outdid themselves with bold, innovative collections that captivated the audience.
Competing across seven distinct categories—Heritage, Modernity, Ghetto vs. Urban, Inclusive Designs, Eco-Fashion, Color Your World, and Accessories Design—the participants proved that the future of African fashion is exceptionally bright.
Michelangelo College of Creative Arts proudly claimed the crown as the Best Fashion Institute of the Year 2026, while the phenomenal Brother Maryviane Ndikizimba from the University of Kisubi soared above 33 brilliant contenders to capture the title of Overall Best Student Fashion Designer of the Year!
Brother Viane completely mesmerized the audience with his breathtaking masterpiece: a stunning, two-piece gown meticulously crafted from cowrie shells. For his extraordinary artistry, he didn’t just take home a prestigious accolade—he also walked away with a brand-new sewing machine courtesy of Trillion Looks Store to fuel his bright design future!
The 2nd edition of the Inter-university fashion challenge ended on a high note as the founder of Trillion Looks Store, Cerinah Nalwoga Kasirye, took the stage to applaud the students for their creativity. She thanked participating institutions for supporting their students.
She issued an inspiring call to action for even more universities to join the movement, proving to the world that fashion and design are undeniably valid career paths.
Special appreciation was also extended to key partners who helped make the night a resounding success, including Rasheeda Nalumoso from DoaDoa—who shared invaluable insights on creative careers—alongside World Skills, Micah of God, Leonessa Designs and Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board represented by the CEO Najib Nsubuga.
With such an extraordinary showcase of talent, anticipation is already building for the 2027 Inter-University Fashion Challenge!
