Private schools intensify security to avert kidnap threats

Jane Kansiime, the head teacher of Kamwokya primary school said that some of the guards are not well equipped but they work within the means to ensure that the learners are safe. Kansiime cited three cases of missing children who were recovered by police last year and cautioned parents to be vigilant when entrusting their children to caretakers.

Similarly, Nakume Faridah, of King of Kings day and boarding Junior School said that cases of strangers running away with pupils were controlled by provision of identity cards to parents.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson advised schools to employ guards in shifts in order to increase their (guards) vigilance in unearthing black spots that may seem to weaken security. Owoyesigyire added that all boarding schools should employ armed security guards during the night to easily combat complex security situations.
