By Miriam Mukama

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the Primary Leaving Examination results on Jan. 21 at the statistics house offices in Kampala.

The results were received by Jessica Alupo the Minister of Education and Sports from Matthew Bukenya the executive secretary UNEB who said boys performed better than girls.

The statistics indicate that of 565,663 candidates who registered for the examinations in 2012, 463,322 candidates were UPE beneficiaries while 102,331 were non-UPE.

Alupo said that candidates of 2012 performed better than those of 2011 hence showing a great improvement in the number of those that qualify for the PLE award.

It was noted that out of the 565,663 registered candidates, 543,071 sat for them and this Alupo said was due to absentism at the time of the examinations.

The best done subjects were English and Social studies while students continue to struggle with science and mathematics.

Fagil Mande the UNEB chairman urged schools to instill the love for physical education in all children in order to reduce the tension during examination periods and improve on the performance of students.

School Head teachers are expected to pick the results from the UNEB offices in Ntinda on Jan. 21 at 2pm.Parents and pupils can still access their results by sending messages to 6600 to get the results.

The selection of the pupils that qualify for senior one will take place at Wonderworld in Kasanga on Jan.31 and Feb. 1.
