Okwi back as Micho names Cranes team to face Kenya

Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic ‘Micho’ has recalled striker Emmanuel Okwi as Uganda starts the post-Nations Cup era with an international friendly against Kenya in Nairobi on Thursday.

Omitted from this friendly are South African based Denis Onyango, Geoffrey Massa and Belgium-based Farouk Miya as Micho named only six foreign based players.

Miya scored Uganda’s goal at the Nations Cup, as they were held 1-1 by Mali. They earlier lost to Egypt and Ghana. It was the first goal at this level by Cranes since Phillip Omondi scored against Nigeria in March 14, 1978.

Cranes will use the games as preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying in June.

Uganda is pitted against traditional rivals Tanzania, and two teams that have stood in their way in recent continental and world ambitions – Cape Verde and Lesotho.
