Nantaba finally becomes Minister

By Aloysious Kasoma

After a long and unnecessary vetting process the Kayunga Woman MP Idah Nantaba was on Tuesday cleared for State Minister for Lands, ending months of clashes between the outspoken legislator and Parliament.

The Appointments Committee chaired by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah today reportedly received a written apology from Nantaba, regretting actions that exhibited contempt of the committee.

Oulanyah, summoned the Appointments Committee and high on the agenda was reconsideration of Ms Idah Nantaba for the position of State Minister for Lands.

Since then, the appointing authority, President Yoweri Museveni has been asking Parliament to meet and reconsider Ms Nantaba reasoning that she is the only formidable force that can fight for the land rights of common Ugandans.

The committee chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga had rejected her appointment earlier on “moral grounds.”
