Namisindwa RDC orders arrest of youths over YLP funds

Namisindwa, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner, Fredrick Bango has told the police to arrest all youths who have failed to pay back money they got under Youth Livelihood Program in 2017/2018 financial year.

While speaking to our reporter at his office, Bango said that out of over 711 million shillings they gave youths in 2017/2018 financial year, so far, they have recovered only 77 million shillings, making it a paltry 10% recovery.

He adds that since that money was a revolving fund, it has paralyzed the program and now other youth groups that were to be given this same money for the financial years of 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21 and of 2021/2022 have not yet got it.

Bango also said that most of these youth group leaders have gone to neighbouring Kenya after knowing that they will be arrested.

Andrew Wabweni, the Namisindwa district community development officer says that money was given to 81 youth groups in the 2017/2018 financial year. He urged youths who have not recovered the money so far, to do so in time so that they may not be arrested.
