Gulu, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The outgoing Aruu Member of Parliament Samuel Odonga Otto is set to be charged in two courts in one day, after being subjected to a mental test to confirm his mental stability.

Odonga was on Tuesday 23rd arrested from Bomah Hotel in Gulu City over pending charges against him which include malicious damage and assault of a driver in Pader in 2018, illegal possession of a gun and assault of a journalist in Gulu in 2019 at Pece Stadium during the FUFA Drum match.

He was detained at CID headquarters in Kibuli but on Thursday evening, he was transported to Pader district via Gulu where he underwent a medical examination on his mental health.

Francis Olugu, the Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations told URN in an interview that they subjected Odonga Otto under mental health examination to ascertain his mental wellbeing.

He says two of the many files on Odonga Otto have been sanctioned by the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

Olugu says Odonga Otto shall on Friday morning be charged before the Chief Magistrate of Pader district with alleged malicious damage and assault of a driver and later be brought to Gulu Magistrate’s court to answer another charge of assault of Geoffrey Okot, a journalist working with Choice FM in Gulu in the afternoon hours.

Juliet Otto, Odonga’s wife and lawyer under Odonga Otto and Company Advocates says she is greatly affected by the way her husband and client is being treated and that she has put all the emotions aside and ready to represent him in court to ensure that he is given a fair hearing.
