Mbale health worker arrested over defilement

Mbale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Mbale city is holding a man for allegedly defiling a sixteen-year-old girl.

The health worker with one of the health facilities in Mbale which police declined to name was arrested on Friday for allegedly defiling his client who had gone to seek medical attention.

According to police, the suspect who is 34 years old was arrested after the minor who had gone to the facility for medical attention told her mother who she had moved with to the facility that the man forced her into sexual activities.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson told URN that Annet Bisikwa, the mother of the victim reported to police that her daughter had been defiled by the health worker at the facility they had gone to seek for medical services which led to his arrest.

He said that medical examinations have been carried out by the police surgeon pointing to the suspect and that he is currently at the Mbale central police station under vide CRB810/2021 as investigations continue as they also await the advice of the Resident State Attorney.

Taitika said that the suspect has been charged with aggravated defilement instead of simple defilement because the suspect is a professional who is in a responsible position and is supposed to protect the rights of his clients.
