Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Masaka Resident District Commissioner, Herman Ssentongo has banned strip dancing alias “Kimansulo” there. According to Ssentongo, the District Security Committee resolved to ban nude dancing following complaints that students were getting involved in the nude shows disguised as music and drama concerts.

He has directed Police to closely monitor entertainment places including bars, video and Karaoke halls to enforce the ban. Ssentongo says besides hiring young girls to perform as nude dancers, they have also received reports showing that some of the places have been admitting minors, which he compromises moral standards.

The RDC has also instructed Police to crackdown on vendors and users on narcotic drugs. Drugs such as shisha and marijuana are popular in Nyendo and Kijjabwemi suburbs of Masaka municipality. Some of the dealers openly advertise their joints and services using mobile vans.

However, all these are banned according to the new security circular issued by the RDC. Asked about the sustainability of the new security guidelines, Ssentongo said he is scheduled to meet cell chairpersons where the nude shows have been taking place to help security with surveillance.

Margret Nanyonjo, the representative of Katwe-Kirumba ward to Masaka Municipal council, says the guidelines are long overdue, saying they will help to safeguard their children in this long holiday. Nanyonjo says several leaders had taken note of the problem but couldn’t do much without the help of security.
