KCCA FC sack Portuguese Coach

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | KCCA FC has announced that they have parted ways with their head coach Sergio Daniel Moniz Traguil just months after the Portuguese tactician signed with the Lugogo giants. The club announced Taguil’s departure on Tuesday evening through a statement shared on their social media, ending speculation that the KCCA FC board was not happy .

“Sergio has a family issue that requires his immediate attention and thus both parties have agreed to mutually part ways, assistant manager, Luis Manuel Corriero also leaves the club,” reads part of the statement. The club appointed Jackson Magera Kaddu as the interim Head immediately. “First team coach Jackson Magera Kaddu takes charge of all First Team duties as the interim Head coach with immediate effect,” adds the statement.

Traguil joined KCCA FC in June this year, ending speculations about the possible return of former KCCA FC coaches such as Mike Mutebi and Sam Simbwa. He succeeded Jackson Mayanja, who had served as the interim manager since April 19, 2023, following the dismissal of Morley Byekwaso.

Despite Traguil’s impressive track record, having previously managed teams like Kaduna United in Nigeria, Hearts of Oak in Ghana, and Singida Big Stars in Tanzania, he fell short of expectations with the 13-time Uganda Premier League champions. His tenure was marked by a dismal run, including four consecutive losses against BUL, Maroons, Express, and Kitara FC.

During Traguil’s time, the club also suffered defeat against URA FC in the FUFA Super Eight and elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of Libya’s Abu Salim. These disappointing results led to severe criticism from the club’s fans, who accused Traguil of losing control of the team’s dressing room and clashing with several senior figures.

During the club’s recent trip to Hoima, where they lost to Kitara FC, notable players like seasoned midfielder Moses Waiswa and first-choice goalkeeper Derrick Ochan were reportedly left out of the squad due to a strained relationship with the coach.
