Kateregga wins Makerere University Guild Presidential race

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Julius Kateregga, a 2nd-year student of Bachelor of Arts with Education is the new guild president of Makerere University. He replaces Papa Salim Were.

Kateregga garnered 3,922 votes beating other 10 candidates in the race. His closest rival Joshua William Mukisa obtained 3,365 votes while National Resistance Movement –NRM party leaning candidate Andrew Julian Taliwaku got 1,465 votes.

Kateregga was declared winner by Faisal Ssekindi, the Chairperson of the Guild Electoral Commission.
The Uganda Young Democrats –UYD candidate, attracted support a week to the polls after identifying with the People Power group associated with Kyaddondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
Throughout the campaigns, Kateregga was dressed in red overalls, berets and red ribbons.

Forum for Democratic Change –FDC candidate Milly Namuddu polled 1,298 while the official NRM flag bearer Osbert Alinda scored 55 votes out of all votes cast.

David Musiri who was also running the campaigns under the People Power obtained 637 votes.

Independent candidates Umaru Wageya scored 44 votes, George Mutumba popularly known as O-M-G obtained 866, and Winter Nsimire Muhangi scored 81.
