Government is to cancel over 350 land titles that have been unlawfully awarded to individuals who encroached on wetlands in Kampala.

State Minister for Lands Persis Namuganza has said that the land titles to be canceled are for individuals that unlawfully acquired land in several areas that include Bugolobi, Kansanga, Ntinda, Bukoto, Kinawataka, Nansana, Buloba and Bulenga.

Namuganza revealed the decision was reached by an inter- ministerial committee after a report by a special commission of inquiry into awarding of land titles in wetlands.

She said this during the 66th State of the Nation platform at Protea Hotel, that discussed the evolving crisis in Uganda’s forestry sector.

“The committee sat about 3 weeks ago and we resolved that the land titles be cancelled. As a minister I have already written to the technical team and I gave them a list of all the land titles. Notice of cancellation will be issued within 21 days before the land titles are cancelled,” said Namuganza.
